Pheasant & Partridge

Game birds and the cover crops that sustain them

We release pheasant and partridges on the Estate each year. They are fed by our keeper and we plant corners of fields into bird cover for them, both as a food source and cover. This might be crops such as maize, kale, sweet fennel, rye, mustard, gold of pleasure, Utopia, sunflowers and artichokes, and often a combination of all sorts of different crops.
We have a plan to encourage some rare native grey legged partridges onto the Estate. Look out for them around, they are really beautiful birds.
