Selling Crops

Selling our crops for the maximum value is important to our business as it’s our main income. We select the crops and the variety of those crops with an eye on the market to make sure we are meeting demand. With Brexit and the ever globalising grain markets we have to work hard to keep on top of trends and make sure we are growing the right thing and selling it at the best possible price.
To further reduce our exposure to the market, the peas, milling oats and grass seed are all grown on multi-year contracts and the wheat and malting barley are grown on annual contracts which also attract an annual regenerative practices premium.
To further reduce risk, we now grow a small area of crops for energy – such as rye, oats or maize. This are sent to a local processor who processes the crop to break it down to produce biomethane which is a sustainable gas used to heat homes, industries and public buildings.
